The Impact on Your Bill
Fuel Factor Rates Update: January 2023

Dear Valued Customer,

The FortisTCI and TCI Government fuel factor stabilization initiative concluded at the end of December 2022, which means January's electricity bill for residential customers will return to normal fuel factor rates. These rates remain relatively stable.

The fuel factor rate on January's electricity bill reflects a slight decrease from the prior month's $0.2588 to $0.2561 per kilowatt hour ("kWh") for Providenciales, North Caicos, and Middle Caicos customers.

Grand Turk and Salt Cay customers' fuel factor rates also show a 2% decline from the prior month's $0.2588 to $0.2539 per kWh in January. The fuel factor rate for South Caicos will become available soon. Current fuel price projections indicate further decreases next month.

Fuel factor rates are authenticated by the TCI Government's Energy and Utility Commissioner's Office every month before the release of bills.

STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO CONSERVE ENERGY AND SAVE

Refrigerator: Consider replacing older refrigerator models with energy efficient models. Adjust the refrigerator thermostat. If your thermostat is set for colder than it needs to be, your fridge may be consuming up to 25% more energy than necessary.

Electronic Devices: Unplug chargers for mobile phones, digital cameras, and other gadgets. Plug electronic devices into a power bar and program it to switch off at night. Televisions and game consoles absorb energy even when they’re not in use.

Air-conditioning (A/C): Buy the right size cooling system. A unit that is too large for your house will cause frequent cycling, inefficient operation and higher operating costs.

Washers and Dryers: Choose eco-friendly washers and dryers which use less water and less energy.  Choose natural drying over electric dryers.

Computers: Set computers, monitors, and copiers to use sleep mode or energy saver mode when not in use. Choosing a laptop or tablet over desktop PCs can reduce standby power and save energy.

Lighting: Use energy-efficient compact fluorescent or LED bulbs. These lights emit less heat and use up to 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs. Consider installing solar lights for pathways and driveways.

Water Heater:  Water heaters are among the biggest users of energy. Be sure to select a unit that is energy-efficient and can adequately meet your needs. Consider putting your water heater on a switch or timer and turn it on only when you need it. You can also turn your hot water heater off if you plan to be away from home for several days.

Cooking: Practice batch cooking! If you’re making something you know you’ll enjoy again, double the portions so you will have leftovers. Choosing the right burner for the pan can help save energy. Keeping the saucepan lids on can also heat your food faster.
