FortisTCI has sponsored the Annual Science and Technology Fair during Education Week since 2010. While this year the project and poster competitions did not take place as schools continue to recover from the impact of last year’s major hurricanes, the company instead sponsored and coordinated alongside the Department of Education, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Workshop for science teachers from across the Turks and Caicos Islands. The workshops were conducted by Dr. Shirin Haque, PhD who is known throughout the Caribbean as a lecturer on science topics. More than 50 primary and high school teachers took part.

FortisTCI President & CEO Eddinton Powell said, “We believe very strongly in the Science Fair and the partnership the company has built with the Ministry of Education over the last several years. We believe in the importance of getting students excited about science and technology, while supporting teachers and schools to unearth and develop budding scientists. We also strive to encourage those students who are interested in pursuing a career in science or engineering. These young, brilliant students are the future, and this is why FortisTCI remains committed to supporting education in the TCI and helping to better prepare our students for the 21st century.”

FortisTCI and the Department of Education wish to express thanks to all students and teachers who participated in the 2018 Science Fair activities during this year’s Education Week, FLOW who assisted with providing live streaming capabilities for the quiz competitions, Dr. Shirin Haque from the UWI St. Augustine, Trinidad who facilitated the STEM workshops, and a special thanks to the Honourable Karen Malcolm and the Ministry of Education.
