The project consisted of removing High Pressure Sodium Lights and replacing them with the latest LED NXT Series Luminaires manufactured by LED Roadway Lighting LTD. These new streetlights are state-of-the-art and voted “best in class” in 2013. They are also in use around the world in places to include: North America, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Barbados and Puerto Rico, to name a few.
The benefit of these LED streetlights is that they are energy efficient and will contribute to a reduction of CO2 emissions as a result of the reduction in energy consumption. This product has an innovative 20-year design life that meets the highest performance, reliability, and durability standards internationally. Motorists will notice that there is a visible difference in the colour of the lights, changing the traditional amber coloured light with a white light that is brighter and offers more illumination on the roadway.
FortisTCI Vice President of Transmission and Distribution Devon Cox said, “We are pleased to see this project come to fruition. It has been a part of our strategic plans for some time now. We conducted substantial research and tests over the last few years with LED lights, strategically placing them in different areas in Providenciales. The NXT series of lights selected are energy efficient, robust mechanical fixtures, designed and tested to withstand Category 5 hurricane force winds, salty environments and climates similar to that of the Turks and Caicos Islands.”
Led by Superintendent of Lines Walter Wilson, this project was carried out by FortisTCI certified linemen who commenced work on November 5, 2014. Linemen completed the task on January 13, 2015.
