Provo Power Company (PPC) Ltd. Awards its Staff 27Jun 2008

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, June 27th, 2008 - Six PPC staff members involved in the five year Meter Technician and Powerline Technician training programs were recognized and awarded for their achievements and participation in the programs provided by the Company. At an awards ceremony, held on Friday June 27th, Ernie Jackson, VP, Production and Engineering expressed that "These courses are not easy and require a lot of effort. They are not a gift, they are earned."
The main goal of the Powerline Technician Program is to have staff members work and learn under the direction of a qualified Powerline Technician (Lineman), and become certified while on the job. At the end of each year of practical on-the-job experience, staff members have a 2 to 3 week formal classroom theory session where they learn and become trained in more complex activities.
The PPC staff members who were awarded for successful completion of the third year of the Powerline Technician Program include:
Brenton Smith - Powerline Technician Proficiency Skills - Year 3
Myron Rigby - Powerline Technician Proficiency Skills - Year 3
Kauven Williams - Powerline Technician Proficiency Skills - Year 3
The Journeyperson Meter Technician program is a 5 year program that involves classroom work, rigorous periodic exams and intensive hands on training by Instructors from the Electrical Distribution Association of Canada. Once they become qualified, Journeyperson Meter Technicians work on meters ranging from household meters to high-voltage industrial metering.
The PPC staff members who are recipients of the Journeyperson Meter Technician Certificate include:
Alvejes A. Desir - Journeyperson Meter Technician
Durrell Landy - Journeyperson Meter Technician
Quinby Hall - Journeyperson Meter Technician
At the awards ceremony, Judith Missick, Manager of Human Resources, commended staff on taking advantage of the opportunities that are presented and encouraged others to do the same.
The active role of the company in the improvement of its staff was further highlighted by CEO Eddinton Powell who stated "Development of our human resources is one of our top priorities. Over the next five years the company will be investing over a million dollars in training, including overseas scholarships, technical apprenticeships, seminars, and tuition support for our employees to attend the local Community College."
