Provo Power Company (PPC) Ltd. Updates the Public on Status of Restoration Efforts

Provo Power Company (PPC) Ltd. Updates the Public on Status of Restoration Efforts 08Sep 2008

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, September 8, 2008 - PPC Ltd. is currently working aggressively to restore power to all its customers. An initial assessment of the damage done to-date indicates approximately 230 poles broke or tipped over across the islands as well as broken or damaged high voltage lines in numerous locations. Restoration work is ongoing and we are happy to report that 7 out of the 12 distribution feeders in Providenciales have been re-energized and more will be completed later today. The feeders providing power to the hospital and airport in Providenciales have been fixed.

PPC's crew continue to clear away broken poles and conductors and have started to set new poles in Providenciales. The company is finalizing arrangements to bring in 30 line workers from its sister companies in Belize, Canada and the Cayman Islands to assist with the restoration effort, particularly on North and South Caicos.
Based on the initial assessment, tentative high-level restoration times for full service are as follows:

  • Providenciales  - 3 weeks
  • North Caicos   - 4 weeks
  • Middle Caicos   - 2 weeks
  • South Caicos   - 6 weeks

Our Customer Service staff will continue to man the phones to answer any enquiries and provide updated information.
We ask our customers to be patient as our staff work diligently to repair the damage sustained by Hurricanes Hanna and Ike. Updates will be made available via radio and Television.
